Cheer Earns State Bid in AHSAA Regionals
The Prattville High School Cheerleading team excelled at the AHSAA Regionals competition held yesterday, achieving first-place finishes in both the varsity and junior varsity categories. The judges evaluated the teams based on criteria such as crowd-leading ability, stunt execution, tumbling, and overall creativity and sharpness.
Senior Emma Kate Prochazka expressed her satisfaction with the competition, stating, “The competition went great! We pushed ourselves mentally and physically, and performed amazing routines that showcase our skills. Now we are back to practicing our routines for State.”
Coach Sjohna Hughes commended the dedication of all Prattville cheerleaders, noting that Prattville was the only school to present five routines at the event. “I'm so proud of all of our Prattville teams! We are excited that Varsity Game Day earned a bid to state. We love cheering on Fridays, and that energy makes this routine so much fun for our team. We have amazing cheerleaders and a great routine. We are also continuing to grow and improve our traditional co-ed routine. It's demanding, so building our endurance is a big focus. We've hit those tough skills in practice and warmups, now we are working to bring that same consistency to the competition mat, and we are looking forward to competing again," Coach Hughes stated.
The Lions will continue their preparations with a choreography cleanup session with UCA judges this Saturday, focusing on refining their routines ahead of the UCA National qualifiers in November.
